I can’t wait to read what’s next!

Before I can even begin to suggest what an effective eTraining strategy might be, I need to first explain what etraining is.

eTraining

Training helps employees develop the skills they need to perform their specific responsibilities on the job. This can include providing information regarding certain processes and day-to-day operations. This is all done from an online setting. Let’s look at some of the useful instruction methods that can be used for e-training:

  • Speeches
  • Demonstrations
  • Videos
  • Text documents
  • Webinars and
  • Other materials

eLearning

So if eTraining is as described above, what is eLearning? Learning generally is the process of taking knowledge and then taking that information and applying it in potentially unexpected ways. In a business setting, training teaches employees and independent contractors the “approved” way of performing tasks for specific situations. Learning, on the other hand, provides trainees the ability to overcome issues that arise suddenly on their own. Let’s take another way to look at it. Training may ready employees for expected situations, while learning prepares workers for the unexpected in an online environment.

Where eTraining and eLearning Meet

It is not unusual for people to use eTraining and eLearning to mean the same thing, but there is a difference. Smart businesses incorporate eLearning into their eTraining strategy. Why? Let’s look at seven benefits of eLearning:

  1. eLearning is cost effective.
  2. It improves productivity and performance.
  3. Convenience and flexibility rank high.
  4. The individual and instructor get timely feedback.
  5. eLearning provides one location for information.
  6. Retention of what a person learns is much higher.
  7. eLearning can be customized to fit a trainee’s needs and capabilities.

Successful eTraining Strategy

A business that incorporates e-learning into their e-Training strategy will have a much better training program than just using web-based training, or even classroom training. Not only that, it will have the added benefit of helping employees grow. Online training and online learning can go hand-in-hand. How? The quality of your training materials can affect how well trainees learn and absorb information. So why not think of it as an e-learning training program. It makes sense, doesn’t it?

Final Words

Very possibly the strongest argument for why any business would want to incorporate eLearning into an e-Training strategy is their Return on Investment (ROI). Adding e-Learning enables businesses to create a higher quality, more effective training experience for employees, at a more reasonable cost. Happy employees are productive employees. When training is made pleasurable, the employees will be much more likely to want to work.
